Government strengthens blood safety monitoring

ISLAMABAD:

The National Assembly was informed on Thursday that the government was strengthening the blood transfusion surveillance system in a bid to control hepatitis.

Responding to a notice of appeal, the Parliamentary Secretary for National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination said private clinics were also monitored to ensure the safe use of syringes and other medical equipment.

Dental clinics, which can also pose a risk of infection, have been subject to stricter regulatory oversight.

He expressed hope that Pakistan will be able to eliminate hepatitis B and C by 2030.
