- IKEA’s Kallsup Bluetooth speakers are now on sale in the US for $10
- They caught our eye at CES and were originally slated for an April launch.
- They look impressive for the price and you can combine up to 100 of them
IKEA’s cute and quirky Kallsup speaker caught our eye at this year’s CES show in Las Vegas, and now it can be yours for just $10. The colorful little speaker was originally scheduled to launch for April, but it seems someone at IKEA just couldn’t wait because it’s available now in stores and online, so you can pick one up and start stacking them right now.
The portable Bluetooth speaker is unlike anything else we’ve seen recently, with its compact cubic design and bright colors, and is no slouch in the audio department either. Josh Russell, TechRadar’s senior reviews editor, got his hands and ears on the Kallsup in January and reported that it sounds “better than it has any right to.”
“Honestly, I’m a little taken with the design of the Kallsup,” he said after seeing and hearing the speaker in person. “I’ve complained these days about how many wireless speakers seem to be cut from the same acoustically transparent fabric, so it’s really nice to see a device breaking all the rules.”
However, you don’t have to settle for just one Kallsup: these little cubes are just begging to be stacked, and thanks to their Bluetooth 5.3 support, you can pair up to 100 of them together to create what Josh happily called a “sonic skyscraper.”
At the time of writing, the Kallsup is available in white and yellow-green, but we also got our hands on a hot pink version, so hopefully it’ll hit IKEA’s virtual and physical shelves soon. As German site Notebookcheck explains, it’s also available in Germany and Sweden, where buyers can choose from all three colors, as well as Portugal, where the only option is white.
See things in a new light
The Kallsup isn’t the only fun new IKEA product arriving ahead of its scheduled launch date. The donut-shaped Varmblixt smart lamp, with its frosted glass and changing pastel colors, also landed early. The lamp, which made an even bigger splash at CES than the Kallsup, was also supposed to launch in April, but has just arrived in the US for $99.99.
Lance Ulanoff, our editor, quickly became obsessed with the lamp’s striking design and imagined they would look great grouped together on a wall.
“With each press of the remote, I saw the color change almost imperceptibly, then slowly transition to the new, fully dimmable shade,” he wrote after seeing a collection in person.
So far, the Varmblixt lamp has only been seen in stores in Europe, but if the Kallsup is to be believed, we might not need to wait until April to make our dream of a wall full of glowing donuts a reality.
