Lahore has introduced dedicated lanes for cyclists and motorcyclists in a bid to improve road safety and traffic flow.
Officials say the initiative will help reduce accidents and ensure safer travel for two-wheeler riders, Express News reported.
The project will be implemented in phases, eventually covering all major roads in the city.
In the first phase, a 10-kilometer cycle track is being constructed along Ferozepur Road from Canal Road to Lahore Bridge. Lanes are marked with a distinctive green color to improve visibility.
Officials believe that adopting this model of global urban infrastructure will lead to fewer accidents and smoother traffic flow.
The Punjab Chief Minister asked officials to ensure high-quality construction standards for the project.
Last week, several stretches of Pakistani highways were closed due to dense fog, causing major traffic disruptions in parts of Punjab.
According to a statement from the motorways police, sections of the M2, M11 and M5 motorways have been closed to ensure the safety of travellers, Express News reported.
The affected areas include the stretch from Lahore to Hiran Minar on the M2, from Sialkot to Lahore on the M11 and from Rahim Yar Khan to Rohri on the M5.
Saeed Imran Ahmed, a spokesperson for the motorway police, explained that dense fog reduces visibility, which increases the risk of accidents, especially when drivers fail to observe lane discipline. He urged road users to be careful and follow traffic rules to avoid collisions.
The motorway police have recommended travelers to avoid unnecessary travel in fog.
Closures are expected to remain in place until visibility improves.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates on road conditions.
