- Leak unveils its very first TruStream audio player
- Chic walnut body hides DAC and audio streamer
- Numerous wired and wireless connectors
Leak is a historic name in hi-fi, having released the classic Leak Sandwich speakers as well as their 2024 reboots which looked fantastic, and now the brand has turned its attention to a new device.
The Leak TruStream has been revealed, which is the brand’s first network audio player (not counting the CD player it currently sells).
It’ll be available in April for £999 (around $1,200, AU$2,000, and the Sandwich speakers sell internationally, so I hope the streamer does too).
The first thing that will catch your eye about the TruStream is its appearance; Leak rocks that mid-century style covered in walnut wood that made its previous products so elegant.
But hidden beneath the surface, there’s enough going on in this streamer to justify its price and then some.
Leakage Specifications
A company called Silent Angel created the streaming platform itself, and its technology is designed to minimize distortion while retaining the signal.
The Leak TruStream has a built-in DAC using a Saber chip, which allows 32-bit/768kHz PCM and DSD512 playback, and a list of supported audio file formats provided by Leak includes all the ones you’d want to use (and some you wouldn’t; hello, MP3).
As well as offering an internal DAC, there’s also a headphone amp, for those of you who don’t like sharing your music. This is just one of the connection types it supports with optical, coaxial, XLR, RCA and 3.5mm ports, two USB-A ports for external DACs or storage devices, a USB-C port so you can connect a computer and dual connectors, Wi-Fi and Ethernet. The only thing missing is a bunch of clips to handle the king of wires that will come out of this thing.
For wireless listeners, the device supports Tripartite Connect: Tidal, Qobuz and Spotify, as well as TuneIn and AirPlay 2. It’s also Roon Ready like any good hi-fi kit.
Need to know if this will fit in your cabinet? It measures 33 x 11.8 x 27.8 cm so it’s not too big and it weighs 6.5 kg.
