José Andrés, an American chef, sat down for an interview with People where he spoke about Jennifer Garner’s work amid the Los Angeles wildfires
He owns the organization World Central Kitchen, which aims to provide food to victims in times of crisis or tragedy.
The actress joined him and his team to deliver meals from food truck and kitchen partners to victims and those in need of help.
“She lost a friend [and] she was there like one more. I feel like she was my friend since childhood – and we just met, we barely met – and she was there. I didn’t need to tell her what to do, because she will always find something to do on her own,” he explained.
He added that she “gave hugs to so many people” while handing out meals. “I think it’s almost like a psychological worry that I don’t think anyone realizes, but it’s so deep and so important.”
“Everyone who was able to show up for even an hour, for me, they are extraordinary people, because they don’t have to,” Andrés continued. “Some of them are suffering from the consequences of the fire, but there [here] they are. And they don’t do it where there are cameras, they do it where there are no people, which makes it very special. »
On January 17, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed that there have been 27 deaths from the wildfires so far.
