- The Ulefone RugOne Xsnap 7 has a unique party trick

It’s true that the best phones are somewhat lacking in innovation these days, but that’s certainly not the case with the Ulefone RugOne Xsnap 7: one of its rear cameras can be removed and used as a standalone action camera.
The handset was recently showcased at MWC 2026 and is expected to launch mid-year. We also know that it will feature a 6.67-inch AMOLED display, MediaTek Dimensity 8400 5G chip, 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage.
Even if it is clearly not going to compete with the best action cameras in terms of size or video quality, there’s a certain appeal to having a unit like this built right into your phone. When the camera is detached, you can use the handset as a remote control and viewfinder, before reconnecting it to reload and transfer images.

Of course, this adds a bit of bulk to the phone itself, but Ulefone isn’t trying to avoid that. The RugOne Xsnap 7 also has a 9,000mAh capacity battery, so this should last you plenty of time between charges.

The actual specifications of the action camera are unclear, but information provided by Ulefone indicates that the other two rear cameras are a 50 MP main sensor and a 64 MP “night vision” lens. There is also a 32 MP selfie sensor on the front.
“It’s not just a smartphone; it’s the world’s first rugged device with a magnetically detachable action camera,” Ulefone promises. “Designed for adventurers who live to capture the moment, the Xsnap 7 Pro merges high-performance mobile technology with the DNA of a professional-grade action camera.”
Having the choice between an action camera and a phone camera when taking photos and videos seems really useful – not just a gimmick – and so we’ll be interested to see the final form of this handset when it appears (and of course the price).
Honor recently revealed a phone with a gimbal camera inside, which extends over a robotic arm, but we’ve never seen the idea of an action camera before. Perhaps the idea of a modular phone is about to make a comeback.
