- Reputable Insider Suggests Xbox Project Helix Console Could Cost Over $1,000
- Microsoft CEO says he will ‘always’ invest in games
- Project Helix might struggle to compete in the console space priced above $1,000
Microsoft recently underwent major leadership changes, with Xbox executives Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond resigning. However, plans for a next-gen premium gaming console are apparently still very much alive.
According to noted insider Moore’s Law Is Dead (MLID), Xbox’s next-gen Project Helix console could “probably” cost $1,000 or more, similar to the price of the ROG Xbox Ally
There have been many rumors and, now, finally confirmed, that the next Xbox console will be a hybrid PC capable of playing both Xbox and PC games, which is a whole new strategy for Xbox. This puts the Helix project in direct competition with Valve’s upcoming Steam Machine, which is expected to bring Steam games to the console gaming market.

MLID’s pricing request is apparently based more on speculation about current market conditions and potential hardware specifications for the Helix project, rather than a “leak.” However, if the alleged price range is accurate, Nadella’s message might not match the expectations of Xbox fans and consumers.
“To me, we really like the games,” Nadella said. “We will continue to invest [in gaming]and we always will.”
While the clear goal is to maintain Xbox’s presence in the console market, a new pricing standard, which could effectively apply to a high-end hybrid gaming PC, arguably puts Project Helix out of competition in the console market.
The Helix project is clearly still in its early stages, and with the RAM crisis sending prices for most PC hardware skyrocketing, it’s no surprise that the next-gen Xbox console is expected to be expensive for consumers.
Sony’s next PlayStation console is still expected to launch in 2027, as well as Project Helix, with the latter expected to be the more powerful console – and if the PS6 launches at a more affordable price, it could pose another drag on Microsoft’s gaming efforts.
