Conan O’Brien is getting ready to host the Oscars again and he says it’s a tricky task.
The 62-year-old host called it “walking a very thin line” because he manages to make people laugh thinking about what’s happening in the world today.
He added that he wanted the Oscars to be fun and exciting, but at the same time still connected to real life outside of Hollywood.
The comedian explained that political jokes should sound natural and that if a joke seems forced, he prefers not to say it.
The TV star has previously done political comedy on late-night talk shows and at events like the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, but he said politics was never the main thing he joked about.
Conan likes to stick to the lines that feel real and skip the ones that don’t.
The former SNL star also added that today’s political news makes it harder to be funny because real life can already seem so extreme.
Still, Conan believes comedy can bring people together and he pointed to past Oscar hosts like Johnny Carson who used jokes about real events to connect with audiences.
O’Brien hosted the Oscars for the first time in 2025 and received good reviews from people. This year he now hopes to do even better with his talent and make people laugh and celebrate films.
