Two people have been taken into custody in connection with the discovery of the body of a child in an underground water tank in the Baitul Naeem residential complex, north of Karachi.

The body of the missing child, identified as Sarm, was found in the water tank late last night after a search operation by the Violent Crime Cell (AVCC), Express News reported.

The operation lasted until early morning, with the participation of the police, the Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) and other officials.

During the operation, two suspicious individuals were arrested for questioning.

According to police, these individuals were in possession of keys to a locked apartment within the complex.

Authorities also found a blanket during the operation, which will be sent to the forensic laboratory for further analysis.

Samples taken from the apartment will also be tested. Police are awaiting the child’s final autopsy report to clarify the cause of death, which will guide further investigations.

Sources in the police said DNA samples of the detained suspects and the child would be sent to the University of Karachi forensic laboratory for chemical analysis today.

Investigations are ongoing and authorities are working to reach a conclusion soon.

A few days ago, the body of a seven-year-old boy who had been missing for 11 days was found in an underground water tank near his home in Karachi North area, police said on Saturday.

The child, identified as Sarim, was last seen almost two weeks ago, prompting an extensive search by police and his family members, Express News reported.

Her body was found in a water tank covered with a makeshift cardboard lid, raising questions about the circumstances of her death.

Police have launched an investigation to determine whether Sarim accidentally fell into the tank or whether it was foul play.

Neighborhood residents expressed shock, saying law enforcement checked the tank twice during the search but found no sign of the child. They believe his body may have remained submerged and resurfaced over time.

Authorities said there were no initial signs of assault or foul play, but an autopsy will be conducted at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to determine the cause of death.

Sarim’s mother collapsed in grief upon seeing her son’s body, as the community mourned the loss of the young boy.

Last week, it was reported that police had found no clues to the whereabouts of a child who went missing in northern Karachi on January 7.

Seven-year-old Sarim disappeared from the territory of the Bilal colony police. Sarim, a student at Al Quran Madrasa, went to his seminar on January 7, but never returned.

His father, Parvez, went to the madrassa and asked about his son. The administration said her son returned home at 3:40 p.m.

Parvez was returning from the madrassa when he suddenly saw Sarim’s gloves lying on the stairs of the mosque.
