Government ready to meet economic challenges (Prime Minister)

ISLAMABAD:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said economic stability and relief to the public remained the government’s top priorities and all measures were being taken to not only provide immediate relief but also ensure long-term economic stability.

He said the government was ready to deal with any situation arising from the current global tensions.

The Prime Minister chaired a review meeting regarding the implementation of austerity and relief measures as well as the conservation and management of oil reserves in the wake of the emerging situation in the region.

The Prime Minister directed the oil distribution companies to ensure sale of petroleum products at prices determined by the government and maintain transparency in this matter, the media wing of the Prime Minister’s Office said in a press release.

The Prime Minister told the participants that in view of the current global situation, consultations were underway regarding additional measures to provide relief to the people, adding that thanks to the timely decisions of the government, an adequate quantity of petroleum products was currently available in the country.

He said that in view of the fluctuating global situation, the timely decisions taken by the committee formed to maintain economic stability had ensured continuous supply of petroleum products to the public.

The Prime Minister further said that national austerity and cost-saving measures have already been implemented and other initiatives are being considered, adding that guidelines have already been issued for third-party audit to ensure implementation of all these decisions.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed about the country’s existing oil reserves, imports of petroleum products to meet local demand and measures to provide relief to the people in the current scenario.

The meeting was informed that the government was continuously monitoring the sale of petroleum products at fixed prices, while to ensure uninterrupted supply of petroleum and its sale at the prescribed price, a feature had been added to the Pak app for consumers to report certain issues.

Through the Pak app, consumers can now inform the relevant authorities about the unavailability of fuel or its sale at higher prices anywhere in the country, after which immediate action will be taken, it was added.

The meeting participants appreciated the Prime Minister’s decision last Friday not to increase oil prices further.
