- Google joins industrial agreement against online scams and fraud
- Initiative brings together tech giants, governments and law enforcement against global scams
- Company develops Global Signal Exchange to strengthen data sharing and defenses
Google has joined the Industry Accord Against Online Scams and Fraud, committing its infrastructure and expertise to combat the global threat of cybercrime.
In a short blog post published earlier this week, Karen Courington, Google’s vice president for trust and security of trusted experiences, said the company had dropped its signature at the United Nations Global Fraud Summit, currently taking place in Vienna, Austria.
The Industry Accord Against Online Scams and Fraud is a voluntary agreement that businesses sign to unite and prevent online scams. Its goal is to bring together private and public sector organizations, governments and law enforcement to better prevent scams, respond more quickly to threats, educate the public and raise awareness.

Expanding global signal exchange
Signatories commit to improving security, detecting fraud and cooperating with each other and with authorities. There are no concrete goals or metrics, with members focusing more on collaboration and practical actions to reduce scams and protect users around the world.
“As an industry, we will unify our collective capabilities, share threat intelligence, and coordinate our defenses to fight global fraudsters,” Google said. “The Agreement comes at a critical time when online scams are evolving beyond isolated incidents. People are confronting organized, global and sophisticated criminal networks that cause significant financial and emotional harm.”
Google isn’t the only high-profile company joining the Accord, either. So far, Adobe, Amazon, Levi Strauss & Co, LinkedIn, Match Group, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, Pinterest and Target have all signed it.
The search engine giant also took the opportunity to announce that it will expand its Global Signal Exchange effort this year, using the platform to share more information, expertise and technical capabilities. “Alongside its partners, Google will also publish a series of guides on data sharing, private sector referrals to law enforcement, and public policy frameworks,” Google concluded.
