Jacob Elordi kept his promise to his mother for years at the 2026 Oscars

Jacob Elordi kept a promise he made as a teenager on Sunday night, bringing his mother Melissa as his date to the 2026 Oscars, just like he told her he would when he was 15.

THE Euphoria star, 28, who was nominated for best supporting actor for his role as The Creature in Frankensteinwalked the red carpet at the Dolby Theater in a classic Bottega Veneta suit, with Melissa arriving alongside him in a stunning black dress adorned with red and blue sequin flowers.

Elordi had spoken of the promise on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in January, explaining the story behind it all.

“I’ll take Mom,” he said.

“I promised him when I was 15 that I would take him. So, I have to honor that.”

He also recalled how his father had been more cautious about whether the plan would ever come to fruition.

“My mom always believed in me. I remember dad doing the dad thing at one point where he was like, ‘You have to have a plan B because it’s not necessarily feasible.’ And I think I said something like, “My plan B is the Oscars.” » »

It turned out that no plan B was necessary.

Although Sean Penn won Best Supporting Actor that night, Frankenstein was far from empty-handed, taking home awards for Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Production Design.

For Elordi, however, this evening may be remembered less for what happened on stage than for the moment he walked the red carpet with the woman who always believed in him.
