COAS promises firm response to terrorism

RAWALPINDI:

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Thursday said Pakistan will not tolerate the use of Afghan soil for terrorist purposes against the people of Pakistan.

During an interaction with Shia Ulama here, Field Marshal Asim reiterated resolve to eliminate terrorists and their infrastructure, operating against Pakistan, wherever they are, through precise intelligence-led operations.

Issues of national security and the role of ulama in societal harmony were discussed during the interaction, according to a press release issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Marshal Asim highlighted the vital role of ulama in promoting unity, tolerance and national cohesion, particularly in combating disinformation, sectarian rhetoric and externally sponsored destabilization efforts.

The army chief highlighted Pakistan’s efforts and proactive diplomacy towards regional de-escalation. He stressed that religious sentiments should not be exploited to incite violence in the country. Violence in Pakistan based on incidents in another country will not be tolerated, he added.

The participating ulama expressed their desire for peace, stability and condemned violence in the name of religion in the strongest terms. They expressed their full support to the law enforcement agencies to bring peace and stability to the country, the press release said.
