Wizards of the Coast has released the first gameplay footage of Exodusshowcasing its combat and traversal systems under development.
Exodus Launch is scheduled for 2027, but as promised, developer Archetype Entertainment, founded by former BioWare veterans, has offered a first look at gameplay and confirmed that it will continue to release more sizzle reels and clips throughout the year.
“This is what you asked for. Work in progress. UI and all. The first drop of many as we head towards an extended gameplay reveal this summer,” the studio said in a blog post.

The first part of the trailer highlighted third-person team fights between the playable and customizable character Jun and his companions, Tom and Elise, on the outskirts of Lyonesse. The trio work together using an assortment of weapons visible in a weapons wheel as they take down robotic enemies.
“This is the kind of fight where positioning matters and relying on your companions can be the difference between surviving and becoming part of the wreckage,” Archetype explained. “When Elise unleashes her barrage of missiles, you feel it. At first, nothing is easy. You hold the line because your squad holds it with you.”
Look on it
The second clip focuses on traversal, particularly the Lyonesse Space Tower, where things slow down, giving players a glimpse of the beautiful environment below. Jun can also be seen using their railclaw, a grappling hook that allows them to climb to high places and overcome obstacles, which Archetype says is “an essential part of a traveler’s toolbox.”
“Crossing in Exodus has its own pace,” the developer said. “You can move quickly, but sometimes it’s worth pausing and taking in the scale of the world around you.
The final part of the footage shows an ancient Khonsu shrine, but the trailer stops before Jun can explore the mysterious space.
Archetype took player feedback and confirmed that it plans to share a deeper look at more of the game’s features, including role-playing game (RPG) systems, like skills, builds, equipment and progression, companion relationships, conversations and romance, Jun’s homeworld of Lidon, and the impact of choices on the universe.
“We won’t be covering all of this at once, but it’s on our minds as we move towards launch in early 2027,” the studio said.
It confirmed that from now until early summer, shorter gameplay clips will be released to showcase combat, traversal, interactions, and environments, and this summer its longer showcase will offer “continuous sequences with moment-to-moment gameplay” that includes combat, conversations, in-mission choices, and more.
Later this year, deeper spotlights on companions, romances, and RPG mechanics will roll out in the months leading up to launch. He also indicated that more historical videos expanding the world of Exodus would be released before summer.
