Western weather system to hit Balochistan and Sindh between March 25 and 28

Karachi will face strong winds and sudden heavy rains as above-normal temperatures are expected to amplify the system

KARACHI:

A western weather system is expected to affect the country between March 25 and 28, with effects expected to be more pronounced in Balochistan, the meteorological department warned on Monday.

According to Anjum Nazir Zaigham, deputy director of the Karachi Meteorological Department, the system is expected to enter Balochistan via Iran, bringing strong winds and heavy rains to the province. It will also affect Sindh, including Karachi, where strong winds and sudden heavy rains are likely under its influence.

The weather in Karachi today is clear, with bright sunshine. Over the next two days, skies are expected to remain partly cloudy, with daytime temperatures likely to be between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures across the country remained above normal in February and March, the deputy director said, adding that above-normal temperatures tend to increase the intensity and variability of weather conditions in the coming days.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Sunday said a western weather system was affecting most parts of the country, with rain and thunder expected in Karachi.

Besides, rains accompanied by thunderstorm are also likely in several rural districts of Sindh including Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Sukkur, Naushahro Feroze and Dadu.

Rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, lashed several parts of Karachi early on the first day of Eidul Fitr. The downpours, which intensified at intervals, turned the festive morning into a humid and chaotic affair, forcing many citizens to change their plans as travel became difficult in several areas.
