Prince Harry suffers major setback days before trial verdict announced

Prince Harry, along with six other plaintiffs, have received shocking updates on the phone hacking cases against the publisher of the Daily Mail, as a verdict will soon be announced.

The youngest son of King Charles had claimed that the British tabloid used illicit and illegal methods to obtain information for its articles. The Duke of Sussex had stressed that none of the people in his close entourage would reveal intimate details.

Meanwhile, Sir Elton John, David Furnish, Elizabeth Hurley, Sadie Frost, Baroness Doreen Lawrence and Sir Simon Hughes also presented their evidence and witness statements during the 10-week trial.

Current and former Associated journalists and staff also testified.

However, a key witness in the case, who could be seen as key to the verdict, walked back his claims, suggesting the plaintiffs were “defrauded” in his statement on Monday.

Private investigator Gavin Burrows appeared in court via video where he said his signatures had been forged on this statement that he “targeted hundreds, if not thousands of people.”

Burrows told the court the statement had “nothing to do with me”.

“You need to explain to your claimants how you were defrauded,” he said in an exchange with Harry’s lawyer, David Sherborne.

“This story is based on a bunch of lies.”

The verdict is expected to be announced later this month.
