Cold wave grips Shangla after heavy rains

Daily activities were disrupted due to the extreme cold and public activities slowed significantly.

SHANGLA:

A new wave of severe storms, characterized by heavy downpours, strong winds and hail, has swept through Shangla district, plunging the region into an intense cold spell and seriously disrupting normal life.

The latest spell of monsoon-like rain began with severe thunderstorms, bringing torrential rains and hail to various parts of the district. As is often the case during rain, the power supply system was severely affected, leading to prolonged outages in many areas.

Following the heavy rains, icy winds gripped the valley, enveloping Shangla in bitter cold. Residents report a sharp drop in temperatures, especially in the upper regions, including the Alpuri and adjacent mountainous areas, where an unusual drop was recorded. The combination of persistent showers and hail significantly intensified the cold, with mornings and nights becoming particularly harsh.

Daily activities were disrupted due to the extreme cold and public activities slowed significantly. In some areas, heavy hail added to the woes. Residents say demand for heating fuel has increased.
