Does Vanessa Fisk die in Daredevil: Born Again season 2?
The apparent spoiler for the story comes from Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in the Disney+ TV Original and is one of the first two names on the show’s call list.
Considering D’Onofrio has been playing Fisk since 2016, you’d think he’d be pretty good at not dropping any big spoilers. Indeed, he played the same character in all three seasons of the Netflix series. Daredevil TV series, and has appeared in other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) projects in Hawk Eye And Echo. So this is clearly not his first rodeo.
However, D’Onofrio seems to have dipped his toes and openly discussed the fact that a major character would die in Daredevil: Born AgainThe second season of. Speaking on the Daredevil: Born Again Official Podcast (watch it below), a companion piece that offers a behind-the-scenes look at the show’s development, D’Onofrio and his colleague Charlie Cox were discussing the opening scene of the premiere when D’Onofrio made the mistake.
Look on it
“They [Daredevil and his allies] “We’re just trying to make very small, incremental attacks on the Fisk regime and hopefully something will give and allow a change in momentum,” Cox said. “And the season begins with their first big victory, which is the [sinking of weapons-carrying freighter] North Star.”
And here’s the part of D’Onofrio’s exchange, which begins at 7:45 and – oddly – was edited in this section of the conversation without context: “So Fisk’s concern is that the public thinks – might think – that his death concerns them.”
Woah woah woah. Hang on, of which death? There’s only one character D’Onofrio has to reference here: Ayelus Zurer’s Vanessa Fisk, aka Wilson’s wife and accomplice. She is not only the love of his life, but also the only person Wilson Fisk confides in. The only other female figures operating in Fisk’s circle are Chief of Staff Sheila Rivera and Mental Health Commissioner Heather Glenn, and the disappearance of neither would result in the same reaction from Fisk that D’Onofrio alluded to in those remarks.
Honestly, I can’t believe no one at Marvel Studios noticed this incident. If they had, they wouldn’t have released this episode of the official Marvel Project Phase 6 podcast with D’Onofrio’s comments included.
In fact, the only other person – besides me, of course – who seems to have figured it out is Reddit user Xenoslayer2137 (see Reddit post above). If more listeners/viewers also notice and report the error in a timely manner, and/or if this story gains traction, I’ll be interested to see if Marvel and Disney eventually pull this episode from the podcast, remove D’Onofrio’s comments, and re-upload it.
In the meantime, I’ve reached out to Marvel and Disney for comment on what D’Onofrio said, and I will update this article if I receive a response.
