Duchess Sophie plays key role on behalf of King at palace meeting

The Duchess of Edinburgh has been tasked with playing a big role after successfully securing a big deal for the UK.

Duchess Sophie, nicknamed the “secret weapon” of King Charles’ monarchy, had made a 10-day foreign visit at the request of the British government to South and Central America.

Taking on a diplomatic role as she undertook engagements during her long tour, Sophie delivered a message from King Charles when she was welcomed to the presidential palace last November in Guatemala City.

She highlighted their “common priorities such as gender equality, environmental sustainability and opportunities for Guatemalan youth.” The Duchess also “reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to a more sustainable and prosperous future”.

To reinforce common goals, Prince Edward’s wife once again took on a diplomatic role as senior members of the royal family attended other events. She invited Guatemalan officials to continue discussions.

“Thank you to HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh for receiving us at St James’s Palace to exchange views on her visit to Guatemala and follow up on initiatives to strengthen cooperation in areas of common interest,” the embassy shared.

Meanwhile, King Charles attended a reception at Clarence House where Queen Camilla gave a speech recognizing the “brilliant” work of authors and writers.

Moreover, Prince William and Princess Kate attended the enthronement of the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury.
