SNL UK Turns The Royal Family’s Worst Scandals Into Comedy For Cold Open
The royal family have once again found themselves at the center of a brutal joke broadcast by the British version of Saturday Night Live, dubbed “genius” by fans.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been the source of much of the tension within the palace in recent years. The comedy sketch suggested the whole Andrew-Epstein debacle was a “29-year plan” concocted by MI5 to “increase sympathy” for King Charles following the death of Princess Diana.
“No one knows better than us how charming, capable, fiercely intelligent and morally honest you are,” an agent tells Andrew in the sketch. “You bring honor to princes all over the world.”
He continues: “Since Diana’s death, the public has turned against Prince Charles, but one day he will be king. We have to make him look good.”
Furthermore, to increase the sympathy of the future monarch, they determined that the only way to achieve this was to “decrease the sympathy of all those around him.”
Sarcasm flows through every dialogue that Jack Shep, who plays Andrew in the sketch, makes — from the love of his brother and his country to the part where he admits that he “sweats.”
It also brings Prince William’s “handsome” look to Harry, who is going to marry a woman who “98% of the British public will find impossible to have a normal conversation about.”
Sarah Ferguson (played by Amma Sidi) and politician Peter Mandelson (played by Larry Dean) also reveal that they are part of the scheme.
Fans flooded comments suggesting how “disturbingly accurate” certain things were in the sketch, like the characters’ mannerisms.
They noted that it was all hilariously executed and that the famous British humor was reflected very well here.
