Widespread rain and thunderstorms expected across the country from April 1: PMD

A westerly wave is expected to approach southwest Balochistan on April 1 and persist until April 4.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday issued a weather advisory forecasting widespread rain, wind and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy falls and hailstorms, in various parts of the country from April 1 to April 4, 2026.

According to a PMD press release, a westerly wave is expected to approach southwestern parts of Balochistan on April 1 and persist till April 4, affecting several provinces.

Balochistan would experience heavy rains and thunderstorms, as well as isolated hailstorms, in areas such as Panjgur, Turbat, Kech, Awaran, Makran Coast, Lasbella and several other areas during this period. Occasional rain breaks were expected during this period, the PMD said.

He further said that Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa is also likely to experience rain, thunderstorm and snowfall over mountains in places like Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam and others. Heavy falls and hailstorms are likely in isolated areas.

In Punjab and Islamabad, rain, wind and thunderstorms, as well as isolated hailstorms, were expected in Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sargodha and other districts. Heavy rain was likely in Dera Ghazi Khan and surrounding areas, the PMD added.

According to the PMD forecast, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir would experience rain, wind and thundershowers, with snowfall in the mountains. Isolated hailstorms and heavy rain were expected in some places.

Sindh, including Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Sukkur and other cities, would experience rain, wind and thunderstorm with isolated hailstorms from April 2 to 4, with occasional rainfall.

Flash floods were expected in northeast Balochistan, including Khuzdar, Awaran, Kharan and other areas, and in local rivers and nullahs of KP from April 2 to 4. The vulnerable regions of upper KP, GB and AJK were under threat of landslides during this period.

Wind and hail storms can damage weak structures such as utility poles, billboards and solar panels. Farmers have been advised to take protective measures to protect their crops from bad weather, the PMD advisory said.

He added that tourists and travelers were advised to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period. Additionally, daytime temperatures are expected to decrease across the country.

The PMD appealed to all concerned authorities to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to avoid any untoward incident during the forecast period. The weather system is expected to persist beyond April 4.
