Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday ordered NADRA to fully assist law enforcement agencies in deporting illegal aliens, state broadcaster reported. Radio Pakistan reported.

While chairing a meeting at the NADRA headquarters in Islamabad, the interior minister said that immediate identification of those who obtained Pakistani citizenship illegally must be ensured and such persons must be removed from the national database.

Naqvi noted that NADRA’s services had improved significantly over the past two years and asked NADRA to introduce more modern services for the convenience of the public. The minister said NADRA’s state-of-the-art offices should be built on their own land rather than rented buildings.

On the occasion, it was informed that NADRA had taken several steps to improve service delivery and millions of identity cards of deceased persons had been cancelled.

A deadline of thirty days was set to resolve the problems linked to identity cards. With the cooperation of the PTA, mobile SIM cards issued in the name of deceased persons were blocked.

Pakistan has maintained its repatriation policy since November 2023 under the Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Plan. Since then, authorities have repatriated around 1.3 million Afghans as part of the ongoing deportation campaign.

Pakistani authorities have also started expelling Afghan prisoners through the Torkham border, with the first batch of detainees being handed over to Afghan forces in a phased repatriation process in line with government policy.

According to immigration officials, 40 Afghan prisoners were deported and transferred to Afghan authorities at the Torkham border.

Officials said the repatriation was being carried out in stages, in line with government policy. In a first phase, Afghan prisoners would be deported, while in a second phase, Afghan nationals residing illegally in the country would be repatriated.

The expulsion process had remained suspended since February 26 due to tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Likewise, bilateral trade between the two countries has been suspended since October 12, 2025, amid persistent tensions in relations.
