“HOLY. Damn. Something important fell,” one user said after the janmatant’s post.
After some investigation, it was discovered that the material appears to contain a 2007 draft version of GTA4as well as a treasure trove of unfinished and previously unreleased assets that have now been uploaded to the Internet Archive.
Aside from ferry items that appear to have been removed from the main game but were used in cutscenes and trailers, fans also discovered different radio stations and songs different from the official version, as well as unused weapons like a revolver, silenced pistol, unfinished animations, and beta versions of character models.
But the biggest discovery is what appears to be an unfinished zombies mode, which featured pickup trucks and specific assets like bloodied police bodies and a hospital gurney.
As Kotaku reports, Obbe Vermeij, a former Rockstar Games developer who worked on GTA4, has since stated that he doesn’t remember much about a zombies mode in a post on X/Twitter, and suggested that it was an “experiment” by a team of artists and other developers “that didn’t work.”
“There were a lot of them,” Vermeij added.
It’ll take a while for fans to completely separate all 120GB of content, but at least they’ll have something to keep them busy while we wait. Grand Theft Auto 6which will launch on November 19, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
