Tiger Woods is taking time away from golf “to seek treatment” following his arrest for drunk driving last Friday on Jupiter Island, Florida, following an accident.

“I know and understand the gravity of the situation I find myself in today,” Woods said in a statement posted on social media. “I am taking some time off to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary for me to prioritize my well-being and work towards a lasting recovery.

“I am committed to taking the time necessary to return to a healthier, stronger and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and I ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time.”

Woods’ statement comes after he pleaded not guilty, waived his indictment and demanded a jury trial Tuesday.

This is a developing story. More to come.
