Senator Irfan Siddiqui, spokesperson for the government’s negotiating committee, confirmed that no decision has been made regarding the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9 and November 26.

Siddiqui made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing the media after the first round of discussions held to consider the demands of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The meeting, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, was held in the President’s Hall.

The session was attended by many political heavyweights including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Aleem Khan, Salik Hussain, Senator Irfan Siddiqui, Rana Sanaullah, Dr Farooq Sattar, Ejaz ul Haq and Khalid Magsi.

During the discussions, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar provided a detailed briefing on each point of the opposition’s charter of demands.

Siddiqui noted that representatives of the seven party members of the committee have engaged in in-depth discussions, but clarified that the legal committee is yet to formulate a conclusive opinion on the PTI’s proposals.

The senator announced that deliberations would continue during another session scheduled for Wednesday. He further assured that the fourth round of negotiations would take place after seven working days, as per the planned timetable.

The position of the PTI

The PTI maintained a tough stance, demanding the formation of a judicial commission as a precondition for further negotiations.

Addressing the media outside Adiala Jail on Monday, PTI President Barrister Gohar Ali Khan reiterated the party’s stand.

“The PTI is willing to continue negotiations with the government, but the formation of a judicial commission is an essential condition,” he said.

Gohar stressed that without progress on this demand, there would be no point in continuing the dialogue. He called for patience and mutual understanding, saying: “Successful negotiations mean a prosperous Pakistan. »

As both sides prepare for further talks, the question remains whether the government will respond to the PTI’s demand for the establishment of a judicial commission. In a context of high tensions, the outcome of these negotiations could have significant implications on the country’s political landscape.
