Brandy Norwood reveals truth about relationship with Wanya Morris in new memoir

Brandy Norwood has broken her silence on one of the most haunting chapters of her life.

In her new memoir Phases, the singer recounted a late ’90s relationship with Boyz II Men’s Wanya Morris, which began when she was just 16.

It was the moment, she said, that left scars that lasted decades.

During the week that Brandy received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the “Vocal Bible” also opened up about her past.

His memoirs Steps revisits his 2006 car accident, his feud with Monica and, most strikingly, his teenage romance with Wanya Morris.

Brandy recalls sneaking out with Morris while on tour with Boyz II Men, hiding the relationship from her parents and the public.

“I was overwhelmed,” she wrote.

She explained that the couple pretended to wait until her eighteenth birthday to avoid scandal.

She admitted that she lost her virginity to Morris and endured comparisons to other singers, including Mariah Carey, before the relationship ended when Morris admitted to cheating.

“I believe he took advantage of it,” Brandy said in her memoir.

Reflecting on the experience, she added: “The shame stops here. The silence stops here…I was a child. And he was an adult. And it’s time the world understood the difference.”

Morris previously claimed during an Instagram Live in 2020 that he didn’t date Brandy until she was an adult, even referencing her famous prom night with Kobe Bryant.

But Brandy’s story in Phases paints a very different picture, one that she says was marked by “neon warning signs” that she ignored at the time.
