Broncos head coach Sean Payton could target a veteran quarterback as he looks to push Denver beyond the AFC Championship and into the NFL history books.

“Coach Sean Payton, who, like any coach who has won a Super Bowl with a team, is keenly aware that no coach has won a Super Bowl with two different franchises, might be tempted to roll the dice on a possible one-year upgrade (if Rodgers was truly an upgrade) in order to finish the job the Broncos started in 2025,” the outlet reported. “For Payton, the opportunity to pave a new path for NFL coaching could be what brings him to Canton.”

Nix injured his ankle during the AFC Divisional Playoff victory over the Buffalo Bills. Jarrett Stidham took over for the AFC title game, which the Broncos ultimately lost to the New England Patriots.

Although Nix’s recovery timeline remains uncertain, he continues his rehabilitation and could be cleared for training camp. However, bringing in a veteran would give the Broncos more options.

Former Ohio State star Will Howard and NFL veteran Mason Rudolph are expected to return to the Steelers quarterback room in 2026.
