Recently, the film irked fans on Reddit after a poster was released showing that Fox McCloud would be a part of the film. Many claimed this should have been revealed as a surprise and that confirming his involvement so close to his release was a disappointment.

Peter Bradshaw described it as “a bland screensaver of a film that’s actually worse than AI” in his 1-star review for The Guardian. He added that it also lacked substance, saying it was “a fairly uninspired variation on the first storyline”.
Kevin Maher gave it a 0 star review in The Times, asking if it was “the end of cinema” and saying that “the film is torturous to watch and, for me, caused periods of real physical discomfort”.
Clint Worthington offered a gloomy outlook for RogerEbert.com, writing: “It’s cute and light and silly, and will probably make a billion dollars again. Such is the world we live in.”
However, some critics noted that children and longtime fans of the games might enjoy the film. Adam Graham said in the Detroit News: “It’s a solid action-adventure game built squarely for kids, with a few twists that longtime Nintendo nerds will appreciate.”
