- Executive producer Fabrice Navrez says The resurgence of divisiongameplay has been refined for mobile
- Ubisoft has also done a lot of work to make controllers compatible
- Navrez said The Division is a good choice for mobile because it is “more tactical” than other shooting games
The Resurgence of Tom Clancy’s The Division Executive producer Fabrice Navrez is “very happy” with the mobile game’s touch controls, but says players can choose to play with a controller if they prefer.
Speaking in an interview with TechRadar Gaming, Navrez said the Ubisoft team has refined the mobile game’s “core” touch controls through multiple playtests, while also paying attention to players who want to use a controller instead.
“The principle is to offer what players prefer. If you prefer to play with a controller, we have made a [lot of work] to make it compatible,” Navrez said. “It’s more or less the same control system as Division 2so if you know Division 2it’s easy to enter.

“Going back to mobile touch control, we did a lot of iterations on that front, doing a lot of playtesting, getting player feedback to make sure you can have the same level of control with a controller, or even with a mouse and keyboard. It was all about retaining the core gameplay first.”
The developer also believes The Divisionwhich is primarily a console and PC series, belongs to the mobile gaming space as the pace is “a little slower than a classic shooter”, making it a good fit for portable gaming.
“It’s more tactical, we go from one cover to another. We have time to observe the situation, choose our target, etc.,” he added. “So this pace is already a good basis for creating a good mobile game.”
The team also developed several iterations on the game’s “cover-to-cover shooting mechanics,” giving players multiple ways to approach combat, including an option where they can automatically take cover. This simplifies the number of inputs needed, making the game more accessible.
“Ultimately, I think I’m very happy with the touch control that we got,” Navrez said, adding that he personally prefers playing on mobile.
“I play like that, so I guess that’s a good sign,” he revealed. “Actually, I’m a little faster with touch than with a gamepad. Maybe because I have hours of practice now, but I think it works pretty well. Like I said, what matters is the player’s choice. And here we have a lot of options to change the HUD the way you want, changing the button size, opacity, etc. So it’s very complete in that regard.”
The resurgence of division is a free game now available on mobile devices. Ubisoft has confirmed that it is completely normal to The Division universe, with gameplay tweaks that allow users to play for shorter sessions at a time.
