As wildfires rage in Los Angeles, Conan O’Brien says his home was spared after thinking, “Our house will be gone.”
On his podcast, Needs a friend podcast, which he has been recording since the wildfires began on January 7.
The 61-year-old recalls getting a call from his wife Liza about seeing “smoke” as he was meeting with the writers for his Oscars gig.
“I remember thinking, ‘Well, we’ve been through this before.’ We were evacuated. There was also smoke, and we were not evacuated,” he explained. “It’s part of life in Los Angeles, so I didn’t think much of it.”
“And so I went from here to, whatever, we went to a hotel, and I went to sleep that night thinking… ‘I’m pretty sure our house is going to disappear,’ and that n “That’s not the case,” Conan said.
His longtime assistant, Sona Movsesian, who also lost her home in the fires, said: “This is our whole street; Our entire neighborhood has just been destroyed. It seems like it’s hard for me to look at photos. It really does seem almost apocalyptic. “
At least 27 people have died in the wildfires, considered one of the most destructive in Los Angeles County history.
