Ripple Effect studio audio director Jeff Wilson said there was “strong demand” for high-quality game soundtracks, and argued that players were “interested in boutique experiences.”
In a new interview with TechRadar Gaming, Wilson, who worked on the entries in both Medal of Honor And Battlefield series, explained that “expectations” for music “have increased in entertainment in general.”
“We are following suit with the rest of the entertainment industries,” he added.

He used the rise of streaming services as an analogy, as studios “quickly discovered” that “producing a ton of stuff on a really small budget isn’t really what people are interested in. They’re interested in boutique experiences.”
Today, many of the top streaming services differentiate themselves by offering their own award-winning shows, and Wilson says it’s “the same for gaming.”
He revealed that there was “a lot more” demand for live music in games, and detailed how EA has “done a great job” building strong relationships with studios in Nashville, Tennessee. This allows full orchestral recordings to be produced at a lower cost than in more expensive cities like Los Angeles, New York or London.
These comments come from the fact that the work of his team was recognized by Battlefield 6 winning Best Audio Design at The Game Awards 2025, which he describes as “an incredible experience”.
“You spend a lot of time producing the game, and when it finally comes out, you just hope people like it,” he said.
“The launch that we did, the very positive reception that we received, and then the award, it invigorates you. It gives you the energy to keep moving forward. It just inspires us, in our live service for Battlefield 6to keep the quality bar very high.”
