Kieran Trippier bids emotional farewell to Newcastle as trophy-winning chapter ends

Kieran Trippier makes surprising but emotional departure announcement at Newcastle.

The departure of Kieran Tripper marks the end of an era at the Saudi club.

Trippier joined Newcastle in January 2022 in a £12m deal from Atletico Madrid, helping to improve their performance.

Newcastle was bought by Saudi Arabia in October 2021.

He played more than 150 games for the club, scoring four goals, and was a member of the Carabao Cup-winning team that crushed Liverpool at Wembley in March 2025.

Eddie Howe’s side are set to undergo a summer overhaul at a time when there are doubts the manager will reach his fifth anniversary at St. James’ Park next November.

The 35-year-old right-back said in an interview published on the portal of his farewell club, Newcastle.

An emotional Trippier said: “The time has come to leave this incredible club after four and a half years.”

“It’s where I’ve felt most at home. It’s emotional and I’m really going to miss it.”

“I would like to warmly thank the supporters for all their support in good times and bad.

“You always supported me, always stayed by my side.”

Choking back tears, he said: “To my teammates, this is going to be emotional. It’s been an incredible journey with you guys.

“I’m going to miss you guys. I’m going to miss you all, but to win a trophy with you was really, really special, the best of my career.”

Trippier then extended his gratitude to Howe, adding: “And to the manager, Eddie Howe, all the coaching staff and the team behind the scenes, a huge thank you.

“I will miss everyone at the club. Thank you.”

Tripper retired from the Three Lions in August 2024, having triumphed in major tournaments.
