Nick Faldo, a former PGA Tour star who won the Masters and Open Championship three times each, ripped into Tiger Woods and the organization after the legendary golfer was arrested for drunk driving.

Woods was charged in Florida for the wreck and for refusing to submit a urine sample to law enforcement. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office released body camera footage earlier in the week showing officers removing two pills from Woods’ pants pocket and giving him a field sobriety test.

But Faldo didn’t mince his words when he spoke to the media Friday about Woods.

“There’s a side that says ‘let’s take care of Tiger’ … there has to be a side of responsibility and accountability as well,” he said via Golf.com. “It’s a serious thing he did, you know. The PGA Tour’s statement was so weak, as you would expect, how they showed the Tour would take care of him, like they always have, and then you have Jack (Nicklaus) saying it tarnished the whole sport. You have your opposites but there has to be some accountability.”

Faldo was dismayed that Woods suffered immensely, as he battled back and Achilles injuries. However, he argued that his injuries were “self-inflicted”.

“I feel sorry for Tiger because he lives in pain 24/7. I asked him this years ago, even before the accident in Los Angeles (in 2021), but it was all self-inflicted,” Faldo continued. “Ultimately, I really think we should do something a little more serious than wave him off to a tropical island and say ‘Welcome’ in three or four months.”

The PGA Tour offered its support to Woods after the golfer pleaded not guilty to his charges and vowed to “seek treatment” for the issues he faces.

“Tiger Woods is a legend of our sport whose impact extends far beyond his accomplishments on the course,” the organization said. “But above all, Tiger is a person and we are focused on his health and well-being. Tiger continues to have our full support as he reaches this important milestone.”

Faldo said the Tour must have been agonizing “behind closed doors” about paying Woods millions and seeing him in the spotlight.

Woods was able to get the treatment he needed outside the United States.
