Start of relief payments for digital wallets: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the money saved through the government’s austerity and simplicity measures would be spent on the public. The prime minister chaired a meeting on Saturday to review the country’s oil reserves and public aid measures amid recent regional tensions. He said, "The provision of relief funds to public transport and freight vehicle operators through digital wallets has been launched."

He added that, thanks to an efficient and transparent system, the digital transfer of subsidies to public transport buses and wagons, as well as trucks and goods transport vehicles, has started. He said, "We are working to ensure that relief reaches the economically weaker segments as quickly as possible."

Sharif said: "We will not leave our people alone in difficult times."

He argued that providing aid to ordinary citizens in difficult circumstances was the government’s top priority. The meeting informed the Prime Minister of the progress made in the implementation of public assistance measures in the face of the increase in prices of petroleum products. The briefing indicated that there are sufficient reserves of petroleum products available to meet the country’s needs. The meeting was also briefed on the progress made in the implementation of public relief initiatives. Federal Ministers Dr Musadik Masood Malik, Attaullah Tarar, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Special Assistant Talha Burki and other senior officials attended the meeting.
