New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton homered for his first walk since 2020 on Saturday as the team took care of the Miami Marlins, 9-7.
The 36-year-old isn’t exactly known for his speed on the basepaths. As he got older, he was assigned the role of designated hitter for the Yankees. Before the Marlins’ second game of the series, Stanton had stolen 42 bases in his career. He managed to record more than 10 once – in 2014, when he was playing for the Marlins. He had 13 that season.

He increased his career total in the bottom of the seventh inning with JC Escara at the plate and pitcher Calvin Faucher on the mound. Stanton slid to second base and was declared safe.
He then scored after a wild throw from Faucher. It was a well-deserved run as New York had to come back from a 4-0 deficit to win the game.

“If they’re going to give it to me like that, I’ve got to go get it,” Stanton told reporters after the game, via MLB.com. “I’m going to take what they give me and figure out where I’m at every day.”
The last time Stanton stole a base was during the coronavirus pandemic-affected 2020 season. He did so against the Philadelphia Phillies on August 3 of that year.
