- Tribit unveils StormBox Micro 3
- The new compact speaker is the follow-up to the 5-star Micro 2
- Upgrades include a more rounded design and (big) battery life improvements
With summer approaching, it’s time for a series of new compact party speakers to emerge from the ether. It’s time to start adding a small, inexpensive speaker to your barbecue, vacation, or picnic shopping list.
Just days after unveiling the JBL Go 5, we’ve been introduced to Tribit’s new alternative – and while it’s small, it’s a big deal. This is the StormBox Micro 3, which is currently on sale for $64.99 / £62.99 (around AU$130).
We gave the StormBox Micro 2 a glowing five-star review, and it looks like Tribit has stayed close to its past winning formula for this new model…but with some improvements over this 2022 option.

The appeal of these compact speakers lies in their size: they’re the size of a palm, and like its older siblings, the Micro 3 comes with a mounting system that you can use to attach it to bags, bike handlebars, and chair backs. But what exactly is new?
Upgrades on the Micro
The Micro 3 has a more rounded design than its previous generation alternative and twice the battery life: 24 hours. Your adventures can be doubly long and your neighbors can be kept in suspense much (much) longer.
You also get a slightly more powerful speaker, with 13W of output power, up from the Micro 2’s 10W, to make it the sound of your summer. I couldn’t find any information on the driver for previous models, but here there is a 48mm one with two coaxial radiators.
The Micro 3 is also protected, with an IP68 rating and military-grade drop resistance, so it’s perfect for tough outdoor adventures. The previous model only had an IP67 rating, so the third-generation Micro can withstand even deeper immersion in water (for a limited time).
You won’t find any cool new features on the Tribit StormBox Micro 3; instead, there are a selection of slight improvements and specification changes to make it a slightly better model. This for a price increase small enough to be negligible.
This could end up being a nice little JLab, LG Xboom and JBL-beater if you’re looking for something nice and portable. But we’ll have to see what comes out before summer is really here – and do a full review of it in due time.
But our audio editor Becky Scarrott has always loved the Stormbox Micro range, telling me: “I’ve been using them since the first generation. 2020 and the sound is zealous, crisp and louder than you might expect from such a small, palm-sized speaker. small speakers, and it really is an endurance that beats JBL.
So, you know, that’s high praise…
