Zendaya strongly suggested that the upcoming third season of Euphoria will be the final chapter of the series, telling Drew Barrymore on her talk show that she thinks the new series will end the story.
When Barrymore asked if the third season would be the last, Zendaya was blunt.
“I think so,” she said.
Barrymore pressed further, asking if viewers should approach it knowing an ending is coming, and Zendaya repeated, “Yes, I think so.”
She then said four words that will resonate with the show’s devoted fans: “This closure is coming.”
HBO declined to say whether the series would end, without any official confirmation.
But this suggestion will hardly surprise those who have followed the show closely.
The four-year gap between seasons two and three, during which actors such as Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi and Colman Domingo became among the most sought-after names in Hollywood, has long fueled speculation that the end was near.
The new season marks a significant change in the story itself.
Because the first two seasons took place in high school, the third season will follow the characters into adulthood via a time jump.
The official text strikes a decidedly more thoughtful tone: “A group of childhood friends struggle with the virtue of faith, the possibility of redemption, and the problem of evil.”
Created, written and directed by Sam Levinson, Euphoria is one of the most talked about HBO series since its debut.
Levinson serves as executive producer alongside a large team that includes, among others, Drake and Ashley Levinson.
The third season of Euphoria premieres on HBO April 12.
