ISLAMABAD:

The government has assured its coalition partners that oil prices will decline once the current situation normalizes, providing some relief amid rising fuel prices and increasing economic pressure on consumers across the country.

The assurance came during a joint parliamentary meeting of the ruling alliance parties, held at Parliament under the chairmanship of Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, where top coalition leaders were taken into confidence over the recent price adjustments.

According to officials, ministers told participants that the increase in oil prices was due to extraordinary circumstances, while emphasizing that steps would be taken to pass on the relief measures as soon as conditions improve.

The meeting was attended by leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and other allied parties.

Among those present at the meeting were Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Oil Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, as well as several senior lawmakers.

During the session, the Ministers of Finance and Petroleum briefed parliamentary leaders on the current situation, outlining the measures taken to ensure uninterrupted supply of petroleum products and manage the impact of external pressures on the domestic market.

In a statement released after the meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said coalition partners had expressed confidence in the federal government’s policies and approved its handling of the situation.

Chaudhry added that other measures related to oil prices were also discussed, with ministers reiterating their commitment to easing the burden on consumers as soon as possible.

The meeting also examined contingency planning and coordination among coalition partners to respond to changing economic conditions, with an emphasis on maintaining stability and public confidence.

Participants highlighted the importance of a unified policy approach to address economic challenges, while supporting measures to stabilize prices and ensure consistent supply chains.

Officials said that once the situation returned to normal, the government would take steps to reduce oil prices, signaling a potential drop in fuel prices if external pressures eased.
