Olivia Rodrigo has announced her first new music in almost two years, revealing that her new single Fall dead will be released on April 17.
The singer shared the news on Instagram on Tuesday alongside a photo of herself blowing a bubble with chewing gum, with the single’s title embroidered on her shirt.
The track will be the first taste of his upcoming third album, You look pretty sad for a girl so in lovewhich is due out on June 12.
Rodrigo recorded the album with producer Dan Nigro, his collaborator on the first two albums. Sour and its follow-up Tripe.
Details of the project have been largely kept under wraps, but she gave some insight into her mood in a recent British Vogue cover story, describing it as full of “sad love songs”.
Writing from a happy place, she admitted, was a real creative challenge.
“When you feel like you’re connected to someone or feel really good, you’re not in your head thinking about bittersweet poems!” she said.
Rodrigo also reflected on what love reveals about a person.
“You get to the heart of all your problems: what you think about yourself, your insecurities, what makes you happy,” she said.
“It feels like the rawest form of you, which is so scary and terrifying and uncomfortable sometimes, but sometimes beautiful.”
