There is no one way to get into professional wrestling.
Fans have learned over the past few decades that superstars can come from anywhere. The traditional route is to go through a wrestling school and then figure out what it takes to do in independent promotions. Other ways include discovery through bodybuilding competitions and various other sports that really have nothing to do with wrestling.

For professional wrestler Scarlett Bordeaux, she told PK Press Club Digital in a recent interview that she began getting involved after falling in love with the sport when she was young.
“I worked in a movie theater for my first job and some of my coworkers were big fans of indie wrestling,” she explained. “They went to AAW every month. I didn’t know what they were talking about when they talked about going to wrestling every month, but one day I was like, let me go with you. I don’t want to go to prom, so let me go with you instead of going to prom.
“I loved it. I thought it was amazing. And a few months after going to these independent shows, I wanted to do this. I felt like I could do it. I asked if I could help set up chairs, throw out trash, anything I could do to be there. I went to the promoter of a show, and a few months later, it was December, Christmas, he asked me if I had a sexy Santa costume because they wanted to offer me a piledriver I didn’t know what a piledriver was, but I said yes, I took the piledriver, came back to the back and they threw me a bucket of snow and said welcome to the company and I was hooked.
From there, Bordeaux worked his way into the business. She appeared in several independent promotions and won a few championships along the way.

She and her husband, a professional wrestler known as Killer Kross, joined WWE in 2019 and served their second stint in 2022. Their contracts expired in 2025 and they both signed with Major League Wrestling (MLW) where they currently perform.
The path to success is always strewn with pitfalls.
Bordeaux described one of the most serious situations she has taken on during her career.
“There was a wrestler named Keith Walker. This guy, I mean he was probably 6-foot-5, big dude, big dude. He was a slam choke. And when I tell you my knees hit my forehead, that’s how I was doubled over,” she told PK Press Club Digital. “Everyone thought it was great. They wanted it again the next month.
“The next month I did it. I had like a sting from it. I just felt a buzzing in my leg and I was limping briefly and they’re like, you’re never going to take that again. It was the worst bump I’ve ever had.”

Fortunately, Bordeaux is still competing at a high level and rivaling some of the best professional wrestlers in MLW.
