LAHORE:

A PML-N lawmaker submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly on Thursday, calling for the nomination of Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The resolution, submitted by PML-N chief whip Rana Muhammad Arshad, said Pakistani leaders demonstrated “effective diplomacy” amid escalating tensions between Iran, Israel and the United States. Growing tensions, the resolution adds, threaten world peace.

It says Pakistan’s leaders have played an important role in promoting international peace and stability during a period of heightened tensions.

The resolution also lauded former Prime Minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s “advice” in the matter, further emphasizing Pakistan’s “positive and balanced global role”.

He called for nomination of Field Marshal Munir, Prime Minister Shehbaz and DPM Dar for Nobel Peace Prize.

Moreover, another member of the Punjab Assembly, Sarah Ahmad, who is also the chairperson of the Punjab Child Protection and Welfare Board, submitted a resolution commending PM Shehbaz and CDF Munir for de-escalation efforts in the Middle East.

The resolution commends their “wise leadership, timely diplomacy, and effective use of global engagement” to help advance progress toward a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran and avoid a potentially full-scale conflict.

He further lauded Pakistan’s efforts as a “responsible state” working for peace, stability and brotherhood in the region. The House also recognized the role of the government and the leadership of the armed forces in preventing major conflict and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continuing its positive role in promoting global peace, security and stability in the future.
