California Congressman Eric Swalwell is under heavy pressure to leave the gubernatorial race following multiple accusations of sexual misconduct.
The accusations are serious, ranging from harassment to rape.
Swalwell, a Democrat and a leading candidate to replace outgoing Gov. Gavin Newsom, has vehemently denied the allegations.
He called them “fake” and politically expedient.
In a statement, he said: “This is the day before an election against the favored candidate for governor. »
The first allegation against Swalwell was raised Friday in the San Francisco Chronicle. According to a former employee, he made inappropriate remarks to her, propositioned her for sex and sent her sexual text messages shortly after she was hired.
Additionally, she reported waking up naked in her hotel room without remembering anything from the previous night in September 2019.
Afterwards, CNN published allegations from four other women saying they were victims of similar inappropriate behavior while working under his leadership.
He quickly lost important allies, including Senator Adam Schiff and Hakeem Jeffries, the leader of the House Democrats.
Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the House, demanded a transparent investigation, unrelated to a gubernatorial campaign.
