Augusta also has a history of green jacket winners.

2017 winner Sergio Garcia smashed his driver after expressing his anger on the second tee at the legendary golf course.

Partnered with fellow Spaniard and 2023 winner Jon Rahm, Garcia slammed his club into the turf twice after hitting a shot that ended up in the bunker. Then he hit a table with a green cooler on it.

This left his driver’s head dangling from the handle, and he reached up and ripped it completely off. Garcia ultimately received a code of conduct warning.

Garcia entered the day unassuming, then made bogey on the first hole, so his anger is understandable.

Later on that second hole, things got comical when Garcia started carrying Rahm’s bag while Rahm’s caddy tended to the bunker. The crowd cheered as Rahm took the bag from Garcia and began carrying it himself while junior Adam Hayes rushed to catch up with the players.

Garcia was disqualified in 2019 at the Saudi International for damaging the greens out of frustration. This time he regained control of himself before it got to that point, although he eventually received the warning.

According to club officials, Geoff Yang, in his capacity as chairman of the competitions committee, spoke with Garcia on the fourth tee and issued a code of conduct warning.
