Look on it
Set 24 years before the events of the original The hunger games trilogy, Sunrise over the harvest is sandwiched between The Ballad of Songbirds and Serpents and the early Katniss Everdeen games… which means there’s a ton of story and detail to pick up on.

Joseph Zada, McKenna Grace, Ralph Fiennes, Elle Fanning, Maya Hawke and Glenn Close lead our cast and, frankly, are already remarkable in their roles.
But excitement aside, I can’t believe no one’s talking about how much Sunrise over the harvest looks like the hit horror film from the 2010s Midday…and not just aesthetic.
Opinion: Sunrise over the harvest is the middle of sleep in The Hunger Games, flowers aside
Look on it
If you are a fan of the horror film A24 Middayyou’ll know that there’s more to the story than just colorful flowers in a well-lit field.
Our premise describes a couple traveling to Sweden to visit their friend’s rural hometown for its legendary Midsummer Festival, but what begins as an idyllic retreat quickly turns into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.
The result? Deranged behavior, vulnerable, unrelenting grief, and no explanation – everything any Hunger Games tournament has in abundance. If anything, the entire franchise is more aligned with the horror genre than we give it credit for.
As fans have noted in the YouTube comments, the bright and vibrant color grading will be a direct contrast to the narrative, which could potentially make Sunrise over the harvest the darkest standalone story yet.
Come November, we can expect the new film to be essentially a psychological experience, both for its characters and its viewers. Combine this unique experience with exceptional attention to detail, and we could be looking at one of the best films of 2026.
