Sony has revealed the first official images of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse – but only behind closed doors.
As part of its CinemaCon 2026 presentation yesterday (April 13), Sony Pictures showed off the first two minutes, along with a quick reel of other clips, from the upcoming animated film. Unfortunately, the footage was shown exclusively to the participants, so the rest of us are very unlikely to see it.

There’s also plenty to discover in the gallery above.
For starters, it looks like we’ll either get a flashback of Miles’ father Jefferson Davis and his uncle Aaron before their argument, or Miles will visit an alternate dimension where the two haven’t separated like they do in Miles’ universe. There is also a photo of Miles and his father having a tender moment in the former’s bedroom, which could also be from the past since it seems to show the younger version of Miles that we see in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verserather than Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Versethe teenage version.
The last two images show Spider-Punk’s fan-favorite rebellious scrapbook animation style and a shot of Miguel O’Hara catching Miles. The latter reminds me of a scene of the couple’s fight in Through the Spider-Verseso I’m interested to know if this is a stylized version of what Miles remembers from this deadly encounter, or if this is a new confrontation between them. I guess we’ll know for sure when Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse hits theaters worldwide on June 18, 2027.
Why fans are still skeptical about the Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse release date
With its first footage and a bunch of new images revealed, you’d think fans of this animated film franchise would be more confident than ever that it will meet its current launch date. This, however, is not the case – and I can completely understand why some still doubt its release in mid-2027.
In fact, before Through the Spider-Versedebuted in theaters in June 2023, its sequel was originally scheduled to arrive nine months later, in March 2024. However, following a damning report on the apparently appalling working conditions on that film, coupled with the Hollywood strikes of 2023, Beyond the Spider-Verse has been completely removed from Sony’s 2024 film lineup.
Since then, its launch date has fluctuated around different dates. Last April, it was announced that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse would release on June 4, 2027. However, two months later, its launch was pushed back to June 25, 2027 just two months later before its release was moved up a week to its current slot of June 18, 2027 in September 2025.
I will never laugh at the fact that they originally announced this for March 2024. Like really, what were they smoking 😭😭 https://t.co/6RZdTATczoApril 14, 2026
Given its long development cycle, reported issues with its predecessor, and shifting release dates, it’s easy to see why some people still doubt it will arrive next June. In the hours after Sony’s CinemaCon 2026 panel ended, fans took to Reddit, ResetEra forums, and other social platforms like X/Twitter to say how absurd it was to do so. Beyond the Spider-Verse was supposed to be released two years ago and expresses concerns about a possible delay.
For what it’s worth, Spider-Verse movie producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller have dismissed the idea that the third and final movie will be pushed back again. Indeed, in an exclusive conversation with me last month, they confidently asserted that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will be ready to start in June 2027. In the same interview, they also said that we will see its first images “soon”. I just wish that by “we” they meant all of us, not just CinemaCon attendees…
