- “I Hate Working Five Days,” Says Zoom CEO Eric Yuan
- We could see the three-day workweek becoming the norm within five years
- Zoom’s hybrid work policies are also among the most flexible in Big Tech
Zoom CEO Eric Yuan said he believes AI tools could significantly reduce the standard work week, from five to three days.
In an interview with the The Wall Street JournalYuan argued that AI agents and automation could handle the repetitive administrative tasks that workers often get bogged down in.
If they spend that much time on meaningful work, without having to waste time on tedious tasks, they could free up hours each week, he noted.

Does Zoom advocate a three-day work week?
With agentic AI dramatically improving production and productivity, Yuan envisions a world in which the five-day workweek could become obsolete.
“I hate working five days,” he said of himself in the interview.
“I’m pretty sure that actually, we really don’t need to work five days,” the CEO added, suggesting that we could see the three-day week appear as early as five years.
Yuan isn’t the only executive predicting positive impacts of AI on workers’ time: JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon and OpenAI leader Sam Altman have also outlined their expectations for shorter work weeks.
Ultimately, Yuan sees this as a positive thing for work-life balance, but he also recognizes that some jobs, particularly entry-level positions, could be displaced by precisely these AI-driven productivity gains.
“We can enjoy time at the beach, but we want the kids [to] I always find something new and exciting to work on [on]”, he added, indicating that the time saved should not be exclusively spent on downtime.
Instead, it would provide workers with a perfect opportunity to hone their skills and prepare for future career trends.
As for the company itself, Zoom is one of the most flexible in Big Tech, typically requiring workers onsite twice a week and offering remote opportunities to those who live farther from offices.
