Nathalie Baye, discreet icon of French cinema, died at the age of 77 at her Parisian home, her family confirms.
Fans were left reeling from the sudden death of French cinema icon Nathalie Baye, who starred in more than 100 roles throughout her decades-long career.
His animated film credits include Downton Abbey: a new era, Catch me if you can, And Laurence Anyway.
After the news was confirmed by his family, his fans and colleagues paid tribute.
Baye suffered from Lewy body dementia, according to the Y Net News outlet, who added that his health deteriorated during the summer of 2025.
She began her career in French cinema in 1973 in American Nightdirected by François Truffaut.
Baye saw his fame grow after starring in Sauve qui peut (la vie) in 1980.
She was born on JULY 6, 1948, in Mainneville, in Eure.
Nathalie Baye became interested in theater and cinema at a very young age and entered drama classes on rue Blanche at the prestigious Conservatoire National SupĂ©rieur d’Art Dramatique de Paris in 1967 and graduated in 1971.
After making his debut in the 1973 film American Nightshe then worked with the legends of French cinema.
These include Jean-Luc Godard (Sauve qui peut ((la vie) 1980), Claude Sautet (Mado1976), Bertrand Tavernier (A week’s vacation1980), Bertrand Blier (Father-in-law1981), and Claude Chabrol (The Flower of Evil2003).
Baye is survived by his daughter, Laura Smet, who is also a famous French actress.
