The days of the Golden State Warriors dynasty are over and it appears Steve Kerr’s tenure is about to meet the same fate.

After the Warriors were eliminated from the play-in tournament and eliminated from the playoffs on Friday, Kerr didn’t hesitate to acknowledge that his time on the sidelines for Golden State was almost up.

“We’ll talk about what’s next for the Warriors, what the plan is for this offseason,” Kerr said. “And we will come to a collaborative decision on what happens next.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen. I still love coaching. But I understand. These jobs all have an expiration date. There’s a run that happens, and when the run ends, sometimes it’s time to bring in some new blood and new ideas and all that.

“And if that’s the case, then I’ll just be grateful for the most incredible opportunity that a person could have to coach this franchise, in front of our fans in the Bay and to coach Steph Curry, to coach [Draymond Green] and the whole group.”

Kerr shared a moment with franchise stalwarts Curry and Green at the end of the game, and while he wouldn’t tell reporters what he said, a hot mic still picked it up.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen next, but I love you guys,” Kerr told her stars.

One thing is certain: Kerr will not coach another team next season.

“I don’t want to leave Steph. I’m definitely not going to coach anywhere else next year in the NBA. I’ll never leave Steph,” he said.

“But it all has to be aligned and fair. These are all discussions that will take place.”

It’s been a pretty dark time for the Warriors, compared to the 2010s, when they made five straight NBA Finals, winning three. They won the NBA championship in 2022, but have missed the playoffs twice since. The other two times they were eliminated in the conference semifinals.

Kerr joined the Warriors in 2014 and won a title in his first season on the sidelines. He also won five as a player, including the second line for the Chicago Bulls.

Curry just completed his 17th NBA season, while Green now has 14 years under his belt.
