NA panel passes Pakistan Digital Nation Bill

ISLAMABAD:

The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information Technology approved the Pakistan Digital Nation Amendment Bill 2024 with a majority, amid opposition and concerns over the rush to adoption of the law.

Ten members voted in favor, while six opposed the bill. Minister of State for IT and Telecommunications, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, who introduced the bill last month, highlighted the need for digital transformation to address key public issues, reduce financial fraud and combat growing national cybersecurity threats.

The committee, chaired by Syed Aminul Haque, deliberated on the proposed bill before the final vote.
