United States President Donald Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire against Iran just hours before the 14-day ceasefire extension expired.
Trump used his own Truth Social platform and announced that although the US military would continue the naval blockade of the Islamic Republic of Iran, he had suspended the attacks.
He said the decision was taken at the request of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
Trump wrote: “Based on the fact that the Iranian government is seriously fractured, which is not surprising, and at the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, we have been asked to maintain our attack on the country of Iran until their leaders and representatives can present a unified proposal. »
He added that the US military remains ready to respond to any situation. Trump did not specify how long the ceasefire was extended.
The 47th POTUS declared that the ceasefire was in effect until the proposal was submitted and discussions concluded.
Pakistan plays the role of mediator between the United States and Iran and has recently intensified its efforts to achieve peace in the region. Islamabad is preparing to host a new round of talks between the United States and Iran, expected this week.
